Google Search

As you develop your blog or website, it’s important to keep SEO in mind. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) ensures that your website will turn up at the top of search engine results – essentially helping people consistently find your content. Take a look at our tips to help you get started with SEO.

1. Consider your audience

Make sure that you are speaking in the terms that your audience would use. Matching the language, specifically in keywords and phrases, will increase the possibility of matching a search. For example, you would need to use different language and tone if your blog article was trying to target computer scientists. Never assume that potential customers will be looking for things in industry terms. Instead, you should identify common searches and what problems people are trying to solve.

2. Always have your keywords in mind

As you develop content on your site, make sure to utilize each opportunity to optimize your site for your keywords. A keyword (or focus keyword) is a specific word that describes the content on your web page or blog post. It’s basically the search term that you want that page to rank for in search engine results. Page titles, body text, image descriptions, and URLs can all relate back to these keywords. That being said – don’t go overboard. Abusing keywords can have a negative impact on your rankings, preventing it from showing up in Google search results.

3. Optimize your web pages

Now that you know which keywords you need to use its important to implement them properly. Search engine algorithms can understand the meaning of your content so we recommend finding multiple variations of your keyword phrase to use in your content.

When implementing these keyword phrases on your site you will need to follow a specific process. You will need to use your keyword phrase:

– One time in the URL
– Once at the beginning of the title tag
– In the meta description tag
– Another time near the top of the web page
– At least three times with variations of the keyword phrase in the body of the page. If you have a lot of text you might want to use the keyword even more.
– In the alt tag of an image

4. Insert internal links

Be sure to link back to other pages on your site as you create new content. This strategy will both boost your SEO and increase the traffic to the rest of your website. Linking will also encourage visitors to remain on your site longer which will give you more opportunities to grow your email marketing lists, get more leads, increase conversions and boost brand awareness.

5. Don’t take images for granted

Always be sure to include image descriptions because the image itself can’t always be understood by search engines, so having a description is key. You can improve your SEO by including an alt tag and a caption for each of the photos you include in your webpage.

6. External links have value too

Linking to external websites is an important part of your on-page SEO strategy. But it’s even more important to get external links from others site back to your content. These backlinks are arguably one of the most important objectives for attaining high search rankings. This is because search engines view links from one site to another as a “vote of confidence”. People usually only link to sites that they trust so getting high-quality links is not easy.

The process of getting links from other websites is called link-building. But just to be clear not all links are the same. The goal is to get links from high-quality, popular websites that are also trustworthy. If you have links that come from spammy websites your search engine rankings could be severely impacted or even completely removed. Make sure you do research to find the right websites to get links from.

These sitemaps can show all your web pages, blog posts, images, videos, and even news articles. XML (Extensible Markup Language) sitemaps are the most popular but you can also create RSS and Txt sitemaps.
